Despite the weakness at the top, there are still more than enough total releases to cause this column to stretch into two parts. Regardless of these issues, both releases are worthy of the DVD Pick of the Week. ![]() This American Life - Season Two is a safer pick, but it is a Borders Exclusive release. Repo! The Genetic Opera on Blu-ray is a clear contender for that title, but its lack of mass appeal is troublesome. With no big releases, we had to look other places for the DVD Pick of the Week. There are five such releases on this week's list, but they has a combined haul of around $130 million, and nearly $100 million of that came from two films. New releases were all over the top 30 this week, including Max Payne, which took first place with 543,000 units sold for the week and $12.92 million in sales.ĭVD Rentals - Saw Seen While Payne Maxed Out Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will also win a copy of City of Ember on DVD.Įntries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of City of Ember on DVD, as well as Nickelback: Live at Sturgis 2006 on DVD. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office of Obsessed. The widest release, Obsessed, may or may not finish in first place, but it is this week's target film. I hope this review compels you to read it because it really is a great book. The last weekend in April brings us four wide releases, sort of. The sense of adventure I felt when reading it, even though most of the story was in the same setting, was enchanting. The City of Ember, to me, was one of a kind. Reading about the environment so familiar to the characters but so foreign to me was fascinating and enjoyable. ![]() It really felt like I was there with the characters, trying to solve the mystery together Something about the novel made me very emotionally invested in it. There wasn't really anything special about the characters, but finding out what was really going on was fun. Because of that, the readers don't really know what the setting is, and that really makes the book mysterious as well as interesting. ![]() In the beginning, the novel doesn't say what, exactly, Ember is, except that it's a city, artificial light is the only light there is, and the only food to eat is canned. Linda and her friend, Doon, are determined to find out what the letter means. Unfortunately, it had been chewed up by her baby sister before she saw it. When Linda finds a letter, she's sure it's the secret to saving Ember. The city is dying, and everyone knows it. The whole city depends heavily on electricity, and it just so happens to be running out of it. In Ember, the only sources of light are lampposts.
